12 PUBLIC PROTOCOLS
Please Protect Public Power Personnel
High voltage, high places and adverse weather conditions are not the only hazards public power personnel face. The public can also create hazards for them. To assist in keeping personnel safe, please practice the following safety protocols.
  Pass Safely
When driving by a Norris vehicle, or any roadside vehicle, please move over and give the vehicle and public power personnel space. Nebraska’s move over law requires you to move over or slow to a safe speed for emergency or utility vehicles on the side of the road. In a work zone, follow all signage including speed limits. Drivers who travel through a work zone too fast can endanger personnel on the ground, on a pole or in the air.
  Secure Pets
If public power personnel are on or near your property to address a service issue, be sure to secure your dog or put them in the house. Awareness and preparedness can help prevent bites and injuries. Dog owners can be held responsible for injuries their dog causes to personnel.
Keep it Clear
Please keep meters and padmounted transformers (green boxes) free from obstructions. Planting shrubs or landscaping too close to these pieces of electrical equipment creates a hazard for public power personnel. Easier access to the equipment will enable personnel to repair damages safer and quicker than if they are hindered by landscaping, parked vehicles or other objects too near electrical equipment.
Please be patient as Norris personnel work on construction projects, outage situations or other issues. Thank you for assisting them to work safely and return home safely.
Safety is Norris’ top priority, for their employees and you.
