Norris Offers Excellent Career Opportunities
  Bruce Vitosh
General Manager & CEO
At a recent Nebraska Rural Electric Association Annual Meeting, Governor Pete Ricketts shared his vision to grow Nebraska and to help create opportunities for the people of Nebraska. The Governor’s strategy to grow Nebraska includes four pillars.
• The first pillar is to ensure that Nebraskans are connected
to great paying jobs and that they have the skills to be
able to be successful in those jobs. The Governor is focused on developing the people
of Nebraska.
• The second pillar is to ensure regulatory red tape is cut so employers avoid barriers to job creation. The Governor wants the State of Nebraska to be an easy place in which to do business.
• The third pillar is to ensure that the State of Nebraska is a good steward of taxpayer dollars. The Governor intends to do a good job of taking care of the people, but to also have competitive taxes.
• The fourth pillar is to tell the world about opportunities in Nebraska by promoting the State and what it has to offer others globally. Domestic and international travel is needed to open markets to Nebraskans.
According to the Nebraska Chamber website, the Nebraska Chamber hosted ten listening sessions and performed a survey of more than 300 community business leaders across Nebraska to learn about barriers to business growth. Workforce dominates the need for community business leaders. Housing, education and childcare are top opportunities or needs for community growth,
which are considered to be enablers for the workforce.
Norris currently employs 85 employees who are dedicated to providing electricity and related services to Norris customers. Norris is fortunate in that a high percentage of employees have rewarding careers and retire from the District rather than leave before they reach retirement age. Norris is proactive in connecting skilled people with great careers as outlined in Governor Ricketts’ first pillar and fulfilling the District’s workforce needs that is noted as being a deficiency by the Nebraska Chamber.
