An extensive search, both locally and around the state, was done before making a decision on a contractor. Saathoff Construction, LLC, of Superior, Nebraska was chosen to erect the 80’ x 140’ structure. The hall has adequate space for training sessions, a complete

kitchen to host community events and a safe room. The public may take shelter in the safe room during severe weather and tornado warnings if they do not have appropriate shelter or if they feel unsafe.
The members of the department are trained to perform various functions of fire and other types of emergencies. The department is fortunate to have crucial pieces of equipment that includes a Physio-Control LUCAS Compression System and a grain bin rescue kit. The LUCAS compression system delivers consistent chest compressions for extended periods of time in any conditions and the grain bin rescue kit removes grain quickly to help save people trapped in grain bins.
In addition to the village of Carleton, the department has a mutual aid agreement which includes the villages of Davenport and Bruning. On average, Carleton’s fire and rescue
department receives 15 to 20 calls per year. Long range plans for the department include the purchase of a truck and an ambulance.
“The new fire hall meets American Disability Act compliance standards and requirements. Community members are welcome to utilize the building for their family or community celebrations,” said Darrel Lichty. “Many community gatherings have been held at the facility, including a graduation open house and family reunion.”
A grand opening was held on September 11, 2021, during the communities annual Milo Day Celebration. The event marked the 20th anniversary of 9/11.
