 12 POWERLINE PROJECT
Jeremy Russell, Foreman, Trevor Murphy (both on left) and Matthew Harvey install hardware on a pole. Linemen install the hardware while the pole is on the ground, so after the pole is set the conductor is ready to be strung.
DeWitt South Line Rebuild
WHAT?
As part of Norris Public Power District’s commitment to providing safe and reliable electricity, the District is rebuilding 8.1 miles of 69/34.5 kV subtransmission line in northwest Gage County. The investment for this upgrade project is approximately $2 million.
WHEN?
Construction began in September 2018 and is expected to be completed later this fall. During the construction process, Norris will work to complete the project with minimal impact on the residents and businesses along the route.
WHY?
The need for the system upgrade is determined by the District’s Engineering Department. The rebuild is necessary because the line and structures have reached the end of their useful life. The aging wooden poles along the construction route range from 50 to 60 years old. The rebuild will reinforce the electric system and ensure reliable power and adequate infrasturcture. The new conductor will have increased current carrying capacity and will be less susceptible to icing and issues during heavy snow storms.
WHERE?
The project will take place along North Blueridge Drive, SW 120th Road and SW 117th Road, between DeWitt and Nebraska Highway 4 in Gage County.
